SAN MARCOS, Texas (Sept. 9, 2021) -- The Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), the regional economic development organization for Hays and Caldwell Counties, and the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 2021 State of Education and Workforce Summit.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the City of San Marcos Conference Center (1001 E. McCarty Lane, San Marcos, TX 78666).
“The quality of a community's workforce is the most important competitive asset it can offer current and prospective employers,” said Jason Giulietti, president of GSMP. “The Summit will offer a comprehensive look at our education and workforce preparation systems.”
Dr. Denise Trauth, president of Texas State University, will begin the event by delivering the State of Texas State University address, which will share insights on university progress and plans that will directly impact the workforce pipeline throughout the Texas Innovation Corridor.
Following her address, several expert panels and speakers will address current workforce challenges and opportunities, and how we can better prepare the workforce of tomorrow.
The event will conclude with an address from keynote speaker Julian Alvarez III, Labor Commissioner of the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). Reappointed as a TWC commissioner in 2017 by Gov. Greg Abbott, Alvarez represents the interests of more than 14 million Texas workers. His address will cover a broad range of labor and workforce issues that impact Texans at the state and local level.
“Our regional workforce development partners, including schools, institutions, and government agencies, are working together to strategically improve our workforce pipeline,” said Jason Mock, president of San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce. “This is the perfect opportunity for businesses to broaden the channels of communication with our education and workforce partners to help improve our ability to better prepare our future workforce.”
