The heart of the Texas Innovation Corridor has a population of nearly 300,000 people with a labor pool of 2.7 million within a 60-mile radius of the City of San Marcos. The region's diverse and robust workforce pipeline is anchored by Texas State University, an emerging research and Hispanic serving institution with more than 40,000-students enrolled.
Texas State University also encourages the entrepreneurial spirit through STAR Park, the 58 acre Science, Technology and Advanced Research Park. The incubator program at STAR One is designed to foster the development of new commercial ventures related to Texas State technologies in applied research. The overall goal of the incubator program is to provide space and infrastructure to expedite research and commercial development of promising technologies in the context of viable, well managed, start-up companies.
Austin Community College (ACC) is a nationally recognized two-year college serving Central Texas with a campus in the City of Kyle, just north of San Marcos. ACC is focused on student success by providing affordable, flexible pathways to help students reach their education goals, learn new job skills, or advance their career.
In 2016, ACC received a $1.7 million Texas Workforce Commission Skills Development Fund Grant to create custom curriculum for specialized pipe manufacturer, EPIC Piping, in San Marcos. The training will help hundreds of manufacturing workers upgrade their skills for new, in-demand jobs.
Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people, ages 16 through 24, improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The center offers over 18 career technical training opportunities ranging from health occupations to business technology related professions.
