Delta Millworks, an Austin-based wood manufacturing company known for its sustainable practices and architectural craftsmanship, is moving to Hays County as part of a major expansion project.

Founded in 1985, Delta Millworks has grown from a local millwork and reclaimed lumber operation to a national manufacturer of exterior cladding and decking. The company now generates 80 percent of its sales outside of Texas and collaborates with leading architects and builders nationwide.

Delta will be constructing a state-of-the-art, 65,000-square-foot facility — including 60,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 5,000 square feet of front office — on a 33.4-acre site along Ranch Road 12 in Wimberley. The project represents a $34.7 million minimum capital investment and would bring at least 72 new full-time jobs to the area.

As part of the relocation, Delta is receiving a 25 percent property tax rebate from Hays County over five years.

In addition to job creation and economic development, the facility will incorporate a range of sustainability measures. Plans include over 180,000 gallons of rainwater collection capacity, zero immediate reliance on groundwater, less than 20 percent impervious cover, extensive habitat preservation and restoration initiatives, low-impact design, dark sky compliant lighting, and future solar array capacity.

“Delta Millworks is thrilled to announce our expansion plans and hopes to call Hays County our home for many years to come,” said Price Taylor, Chief Operations Officer.  “We're an innovative, fast-growing, job-creating, second-generation family-owned business with sustainability and craftsmanship at the core of everything we do.”

Taylor said the new facility will allow them to continue the growth trajectory they've been on for many years and better serve their customers all over the country.

“We intend to be good stewards of the environment and supportive members of the community wherever we land,” Taylor added. “Our turnover rate is well below industry average, which demonstrates that we are a good employer that pays living wages and offers great benefits and opportunities for advancement. The considerations we've received for both federal and county incentives speak to the positive impact Delta Millworks will bring to the area.”

Delta had outgrown its facilities in Austin and considered other locations to expand, including West Texas, Colorado, and Utah. However, the company said Hays County was perfect due to its proximity to Austin and access to skilled labor.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra welcomes Delta to Hays County.

"We’re thrilled to welcome Delta Millworks to Wimberley. Their commitment to sustainable craftsmanship and historic preservation aligns perfectly with the values we hold dear in Hays County,” Becerra said. “This move not only strengthens our local economy but also reinforces our reputation as a home for innovative, quality-driven businesses."

Hays County Precinct 3 Commissioner Morgan Hammer said she and the commissioners’ court examined this project and the core values of Delta Millworks.

“They have genuinely demonstrated their dedication to supporting our community while prioritizing environmental responsibility and maintaining the distinctive character of the Wimberley Valley,” Hammer said. “The initiative will generate quality jobs, offering significant employment opportunities for our residents.”

Hammer added that Delta Millworks will contribute to an essential tax base, particularly benefiting Wimberley Fire, Wimberley EMS, and the Wimberley Independent School District.

The company has a long history of high-profile projects, including restoration work on the Texas State Capitol in the 1990s. Today, Delta continues to focus exclusively on 100 percent natural, sustainably sourced wood, aligning with growing demand from eco-conscious builders, developers, and homeowners nationwide.

The Wimberley facility marks a new chapter for the company as it positions itself for continued growth in the green building sector.
