HAYS AND CALDWELL COUNTIES, Texas – With a pair of proclamations, the Commissioners Courts of Hays and Caldwell Counties declared October 2022 as Manufacturing Month, recognizing the economic impact of manufacturing in the Texas Innovation Corridor.
The declarations, both pronounced on Tuesday, October 11, are part of a collaborative effort between several organizations within the region, including the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), which is the economic development organization for Hays and Caldwell Counties; the Greater San Marcos Manufacturing Association (GSMMA); and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA).
“Manufacturers are one of the leading job creators in Central Texas, providing competitive wages and benefits for the region,” said Maggie Gillespie, manager of business retention and expansion for GSMP. “Manufacturing Month helps connect our the region’s future workforce with local manufacturers, especially the advanced manufacturers who call the Texas Innovation Corridor home.”
According to the Texas Association of Manufacturers, more than 869,000 Texans are employed in manufacturing across the state, with an average compensation of $82,540. Manufacturers such as CFAN, Thermon and Mensor LP serve as major employers in Hays and Caldwell Counties, providing high-quality jobs with competitive wages and benefits.
During the month of October, Manufacturing Month increases awareness & changes misperceptions of manufacturing among the emerging workforce, including the currently reskilling & upskilling workforce, women, students, military veterans and transitioning servicemembers. As part of Manufacturing Month, 14 manufacturers in the region are hosting students from local school districts to discuss careers in modern manufacturing and inspire the next generation of workforce leaders.
