In a pair of proclamations, the Commissioners Courts of Hays and Caldwell Counties have declared October 2020 as Manufacturer's Month, recognizing the economic impact of manufacturing in the Texas Innovation Corridor.

The declarations are part of a collaborative effort between the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP), which is the economic development organization for Hays and Caldwell Counties; the Greater San Marcos Manufacturing Association (GSMMA); and Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA).

“The manufacturing industry is critical to our region’s economy and is responsible for much of the new capital investment and job growth we’ve seen in recent years,” said Jason Giulietti, president of GSMP.

According to research from the Texas Association of Manufacturers, more than 869,000 Texans are employed in manufacturing across the state and manufactured goods account for approximately 90% of all Texas exports. Manufacturers such as CFAN, Thermon and Mensor LP serve as major employers in the Greater San Marcos region, providing high-quality jobs with competitive wages and benefits.

“Our local manufacturers have unique, innovative ways to build everything from healthcare equipment parts to jet engine fans,” said Jason Otto, board chair of GSMMA and president of Mensor LP. “Manufacturing provides competitive wages and benefits to our region, plus it brings financial and cultural impact from a local, national and international scale to our residents.”

To commemorate Manufacturing Month, two websites have been developed by GSMP and GSMMA: www.gsmma-tx.org  recognizes the role of manufacturing in the Greater San Marcos region, while www.promfg.org explores the careers that can be made from the manufacturing industry, including several videos funded through a WSCRA grant. The purpose of the videos is to demonstrate how attainable jobs are in manufacturing and to entice young adults 18-28 years old to consider opportunities in this field.
